Simple Air Freshener

Simple Air Freshener

When you've been inside the house for too long, you begin to realize how much freshening up there needs to be done. This Simple Air Freshener is a DIY air freshener that may help you feel like your living in a brand new home. It will surely give you something fun and creative to do for a little while. Many times, all you need to feel inspired is your favorite scent filling the rooms of your home. However, you don't need to stop there. This tutorial also includes a DIY car air freshener so you can surround yourself with good smells.

Simple Air Freshener

  • Wood cubes, craft shapes, or pieces of wood
  • Scented aromatherapy oil
  • Container
  • Paint brush
  • Jar
  • Perfume

  1. Get some wood cubes, craft shapes or pieces of wood of your choice.

  2. Choose whatever scented aromatherapy oil you’d like and put some in a container. Then with a paint brush, brush on the oil.

  3. For the cubes, put them in a jar with several drops of oil and shake them up until the oil gets all over them.
  4. Spray perfume on it if you want. But if you do that you need to ensure that you do it on a relatively thicker piece of wood or the wood will warp. The perfume ones did not last as long as the oils ones did.
  5. After you cover the wood with the oil, in a closed container, let it sit overnight to absorb it.
  6. Then hang or place your air freshener wherever you’d like.

This could be a project for the kids as pictured here but I would think adult supervision would be necessary. I do not know a lot about the essential oils but I do know that kids love to explore with their mouths. This little girls seems to understand that "paint" only goes on surfaces. At the end of the project they will like to have these displayed in their space.

Purchasing air fresheners in the store could literally break you. I am always on the look out for something that really works. Not sure about this one but it is a project I can get the kids involved in. Now that the weather is getting cooler I need to keep them busy with inside activities. Will let you know how effective it turns out to be.

What a very inexpensive, environmentally friendly project. You can get wood pieces at your big box home repair stores. They usually give them for free. And the idea of being able to use your favorite scent is a plus. No sprays in the air or electricity involved, it's just an all around perfect project.

Tried this craft? What did you think?

I am so happy to find this tutorial on making your own air fresheners by using wood blocks and aromatherapy oil of your choice. I did not think to use wood shapes to hang in your car either. I love love this idea because their is no harmful chemicals in the oils. This is a great cost efficient way to go instead of buying all the diffusers for every room and car. This is so easy. Got to get my oils and wooden blocks and wood shape and put in all the rooms. Thanks for the super idea.
