Tissue Box Winter Door Hanger

Winter is prime season for colds, so you might find yourself with more empty tissue boxes than normal. This season, use them to create a Tissue Box Winter Door Hanger from Candace Jedrowicz that screams winter. Simple winter crafts add a touch during the holiday season.

Tissue Box Winter Door Hanger

  • Aleene’s Tacky Glue Pen
  • Cardboard with an image you like (I used a holiday themed tissue box)
  • Scissors
  • Decorative paper
  • Decorative edge scissors
  • Glitter glue
  • 20 Gauge wire – 16″
  • Accent beads
  • Hole punch 1/8″
  • Grommets
  • Cropadile or grommet setter

  1. Cut your cardboard image out.
  2. Using the decorative edge scissors to cut a piece of decorative paper 1″ to 1- 1/2″ inches larger than your cardboard and glue the cardboard on the paper.
  3. Punch 2 holes at the top of the paper.  Place the grommets in the holes and set them.
  4. Cut narrow strips of decorative paper that will overlap the edges of the cardboard.
  5. Glitter the edges of the decorative paper strips and the decorative background paper and allow to dry.
  6. Glue the paper strips onto the edges of the cardboard and allow to dry.
  7. Curve the wire and put both ends through the grommet holes from back to front.  Adjust the wire to have enough room to hang over a door knob.
  8. Slide accent beads on the wire ends.
  9. Wrap the ends of the wire into spirals, or waves, or any way you like that will hold the beads on.
  10. Here is the finished hanger.  You can’t see the wire over the doorknob, but it’s there.

Great way to use some pretty packaging. I was noticing that our tissues boxes were looking particularly festive and seasonal this year but unfortunately did not save any. I used the front of a very cute Christmas card instead for this project. It turned out well except (there's always one of those it seems) I put the grommets too close together in the middle. My accent beads and wire sort of hang down into the middle of the scene now but oh well it still looks ok. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
