Spider Tie Dye Design

This tie dye design shows you how to combine bright dyes with black dyes to make one cool t-shirt.

Grab your favorite tie dye supplies and prepare to make one of the coolest designs out there. The Spider Tie Dye Design is a gorgeous way to combine bright colors with a darker dye. This design resembles long spider legs, but there is nothing creepy crawly about this design. You will be in awe after creating this project. In just five steps, you can learn how to tie dye a t-shirt unlike any of the other traditional designs. This project requires you to have several bright tie dye colors as well as black dye. So, make sure you have some plastic gloves on-hand, because black dye can leave a pretty wicked stain.
Actually looking for a spider-inspired, creepy crawly design? Try out this tie dye technique with just two colors of dye: orange and black. You’ll love the results.

Materials List

  • Plain white t-shirt
  • Rubber bands
  • Tulip Tie Dye (6 colors including black)

How to Tie Dye the Spider Design

  1. Wet shirt. Fold damp shirt in half.

  2. Pinch shirt where you would like center of spiral to be. Twist until entire shirt is spiraled.

  3. Bind spiral with three intersecting rubber bands to create six wedge shapes.

  4. Apply a different color of dye onto each wedge shape. Carefully flip spiral over and apply corresponding colors to backside.

  5. Apply black dye to one side of spiral, completely covering other colors. Cover with plastic wrap to keep damp. Let set 6 to 8 hours, rinse thoroughly and wash separately.
