Once you learn how to paint with recycled gift cards, you'll never pick up a paint brush again. This fun technique is unexpected yet amazing. Now you can recycle gift cards and cut down on your trash haul at the end of the week. Gift cards are a great way to show you care, but they tend to create a lot of waste. This is an eco-friendly craft project that is creative and interesting. Cute gift card ideas are few and far between, so be sure to use up your old ones for something practical. Create your own cool wall art or decorate a piece of furniture to give it a new and unexpected look.

Materials List

  • Your surface – could be wood piece you are using chalk paint on or a mixed media canvas.
  • Acrylic paint or chalk paint
  • Old hotel key cards or used gift cards
  • Palette

Instructions:

  1. Add paint to the short edge and scrape it across the surface, adding texture and color to your surface.

  2. Add paint to the middle of one side and float the paint across the surface.  This is a great way to create a “chippy” look in your work.

  3. Use the short edge to add lines of color or scrape away lines of color as well.
