Materials List

  • An old frame
  • Fabric scraps
  • Pinking shears
  • Drawer handles
  • An electric drill
  • A screwdriver

Picture Frame Tray DIY Instructions

  1. Take apart the frame and remove the old photo and lift up the mat backings. Give the glass a good cleaning. Discard the photo or hang onto it for another paper project.

  2. Using your pinking shears, cut a piece of fabric just larger than the glass and set it aside.

  3. Measure the sides of the frame where you want to put the handles and drill the pilot holes.

  4. Screw the handles to both sides of the frame.

  5. To finish, lay the fabric on top and secure the mat backings.

Do you have that friend or family member that likes things that are real different that are maybe one of a kind then check this video on how to make this picture frame serving tray. Just take back off of frame, clean glass, put down a piece of fabric to your liking and put on a pretty handle(I would put on both the sides) put back on and there you go. How cool is that. Nice project. There is a written tutorial too.

I love this idea. I've actually made something really similar, but covered a piece of foam board in velvety fabric instead of reusing the glass. I mostly use it for beading, but it works well as a tray in a pinch. Attaching handles would be a big help. Covering the existing glass in fabric probably makes a much sturdier tray than foam board, though!

This is such a cute idea. It could definitely bring character to a room as an accent piece as well.
