Wrap little balloons in yarn, apply glue, and implement a few other tips and tricks to create the neatest yarn balloon lanterns. These are miniature versions that you can hang up to make party lights for any occasion. Of course, make sure you use battery-operated tea lights rather than real candles with this craft! Materials List

  • Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie
  • Aleene’s Tacky Glue
  • Small Balloons
  • Battery Operated Tea Lights
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Heavy Spray Starch

  1. Blow up the balloons to the size desired for your finished lanterns.

  2. Use your fingers to spread the glue on the yarn as you wrap it around the balloon. Be sure to leave an opening around the knot in the balloon big enough to fit the tea light into.

  3. Let the balloons with the yarn on them dry overnight.

  4. Use the scissors to pop the balloon near the knot. Peel the balloon from the inside of the yarn lantern, turning the lantern inside out if needed. It should be just soft enough to gently turn inside out, and then right side out after the balloon is removed.

  5. Reshape the balloon, and apply spray starch if additional stiffening is needed.

  6. Add a hanging string to each lantern in your desired length, tying each end of the string to opposite sides of the opening. Trim off excess yarn.

  7. Insert tea light and hang and enjoy your new DIY yarn ball lights!

These are one of the easiest diy crafts to try. It doesn't take much to make them. Either in money, supplies or time. I have made them for my patio and they are very pretty at night when out for barbeque times. You can get all items including the battery tea lights at the dollar store.

I've seen this kind of DIY project before. But it was large globes about the size of a volleyball. The tiny globes are just the perfect size to hang from trees that line your walkway when you are having a garden party or a wedding. You can make so many of them for on the cheap!

It's so simple, and it looks so great!

Time to try something new. I have made similar items using glue and paper but never tried using yarn. This looks easy enough. I have tons of left over yarn in my stash. I can have all colors of the rainbow. It takes nothing to make these neat lights. And the dollar store sells the battery tea lights.
