If you're in need of some summer outdoor lighting then this one is it. It's very low cost, you can save your grocery cans and make these tin can luminaries. You can string some fairy lights inside especially for outdoor parties or romantic dates but battery operated tea lights work best.

These can be painted ahead of time instead of using tape. I have heard to fill the can with water before punching holes, then freeze solid. When they are frozen you can use a hammer and a nail to punch holes. You don't have to worry about the metal shavings as much, or crushing the can from too much pressure. Make nightlights with constellations, or for a stargazing activity. You can also insert glow sticks inside as a light source.
