Polymer Clay Cookie Necklace

Satisfy your sweet tooth with this adorable jewelry craft. Instead of the eating cookies, make them out of polymer clay! A Polymer Clay Cookie Necklace from Candace Jedrowicz is fun and casual - you can wear it whenever you want! Grab some wire and get crafting.

Polymer Clay Cookie Necklace

  • 1 foot of 20 gauge wire (I used copper)
  • 3 feet of chain
  • Basic jewelry tools, round nosed and chain nosed pliers
  • Chasing hammer and hammering surface
  • Three beads with the attachments I describe above
  • One or two accent beads

  1. Starting with the top-to-bottom-holed bead, hammer one end of a 2″ piece of wire. The object is to flatten and shape the end of the wire to keep an accent bead on.

  2. Slide the accent bead on and make a loop and wrap the tail around. Trim the excess wire.
  3. Cut a 2 1/2″ piece of wire and make a loop in one end. Before wrapping, slide the accent bead onto the loop.

  4. Make a loop at the top of the bead. Wrap the tail around and trim the excess.

  5. Cut a 2″ piece of wire and bend it in the middle. Slide the front-to-back-holed bead onto the wire and bend the the other side up to match the first bend. Leave a little room for the bead to move.

  6. Wrap one end around the other just above the bead. Make a loop in the other end. Wrap the tail around and trim the excess wire.

  7. Take a minute to decide how you will want the beads to hang. Cut the chain to desired lengths and attach each bead with one of the chain links.

  8. Cut about an inch of wire and wrap it around a round object. Brace the object against your hammering surface and hammer it slightly flat. This will harden the wire to help keep its shape.

  9. Measure the chain around your neck to determine how long you want it.

  10. Arrange your beads and remove the excess chain links from them.
  11. Attach the ends of the chain and the three beads with the hammered ring.
  12. Split the necklace chain at the back.
  13. Cut a 1 1/2″ piece of wire. Make a small loop and slide on end of the chain onto the loop before wrapping. Make a larger loop on the other end, wrap and trim the excess wire.
  14. Cut another 1 1/2″ piece of wire and fold it in half. Bend the folded end over to form a hook. Make a loop in one end to slide the chain onto. Wrap and trim. Grasp the folded end with pliers and wrap the other end between the loop and the hook.
