Decorative Chalkboard Paint Plate Mother's Day Craft

By: Marty from Marty's Musings
Decorative Chalkboard Paint Plate Mothers Day Craft

The best gifts are handmade, so be sure to remember this when you're coming up with Mother's Day gift ideas. A Decorative Chalkboard Paint Plate Mother's Day Craft is perfect for kids to make for the holiday. You can start and finish this project in an afternoon, making it a great after school or weekend afternoon project for kids. This is the perfect Mother's Day gift idea for the beloved woman who has everything. She can display the plate on a countertop or mantel all year long and appreciate the time and effort put into the piece. You can also use chalk to customize your message and leave a special greeting.

Primary TechniquePainting

  • Plate
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Glass Chalkboard Paint
  • Chalk

  1. I first cleaned the plate with rubbing alcohol and then began to apply one coat at a time of the Glass Chalkboard paint.
  2. You can see the design of the glass plate as I began to add coats of paint to it. I applied the chalkboard paint with a cosmetic sponge, about 5 coats in all.
  3. I only waited about an hour or two between coats (and you probably don’t have to wait that long, but I wanted to be sure it was dry.) Allow the plate to dry for 4 days and then bake for 30 minutes in a 325 degree oven. I allowed the project to cool with the oven door open
