Open Weave Scarf Head Wrap

This is a great accessory from Authentic Knitting Board. Once you have knit it once, you can do many variations. It also makes a wonderful Holiday gift, and it can be knit up in a matter of hours. The entire garment is knit in Stockinette Stitch, and consists of two triangles. It’s the yarn that gives it the wonderful, swirly edges.

Open Weave Scarf Head Wrap

  • Yarn: Rowan Donegal lambswool-100% pure new wool, (5) skeins at 25 grams each.
  • Knitting board spacers 1-1/4” spacing. This is widest spacing on wood adjustable spacer. Need 4” bolts for knitting board.

Gauge 2.5 stitches=1”

This scarf/shawl will flow best if you keep your tension loose and your decrease snug.

Instructions for each triangle: (knit 2)

  1. Cast on (72) stitches. Place thick yarn for anchor yarn.
  2. Decrease (1) stitch at beginning of every row on both boards, beginning of rows only. Do not decrease on back end of board.
  3. Continue this for (60) rows.
  4. You now have (12) stitches remaining on board.
  5. Decrease (2) stitches at beginning of next row.
  6. Continue this decrease until you have just (2) stitches remaining. Bind Off.
  7. Leave approximately 26” of yarn on piece for sewing.
  8. Loosely crochet all stitches off anchor yarn. Remove anchor yarn by gently pulling from the knitting.
  9. Finishing: With short sides together, use end of yarn to loosely sew pieces together. A
  10. whip stitch will create the softest joint without any seam lines.
  11. Variations: To make a longer shawl that will drape nicely to hip, you will knit more rows.
  12. Change the Decrease: Decrease (1) stitch at beginning of (2) rows.
  13. Knit one regular row with no decrease.
  14. Repeat these (3) rows until you have knit a total of (90) rows.
  15. You now have (30) stitches on board.
  16. Decrease every row until you have (2) stitches remaining. Bind Off.

when this pattern instructs to cast on 72 stitches on the knitting board does that mean 72 pegs, and is this double knit. I have a knitting board with 48 pegs, this is called an all-in-one loom, I have tried this pattern and it is way to small anyadvice. thanks

What an absolutely beautiful loom knitted item! I dare anyone to try to say that this is not a true knitted item. Even experienced knitters wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this loom knitted and needle knitted using the same pattern!

I think it is beautiful and sounds easy enough. I will have to try it. Thanks

Can this be made wo the board by using the yarn and reg. lg. app. #10 needles? I have no idea what you are talking about-BOARD????????

Can it be made by a round loom?
