Criss-Cross Tassel Dishcloth

Beginners unite! This is a fantastic crochet dishcloth pattern for you. The Criss-Cross Tassel Dishcloth is an excellent free crochet dishcloth pattern featuring a classic stitch and a bonus new stitch. Begin with your standard rows of double crochets (great practice for beginners), and then learn how to do the criss-cross stitch. This beautiful stitch creates the unique texture rows you see throughout the pattern. Last but not least, this dishcloth is simply not complete without tassels! Tassels are so trendy right now, and they really complete this gorgeous dishcloth.

Materials List

  • Size H (5MM) crochet hook
  • Larger size crochet hook for making tassels
  • Any type of cotton yarn. I used Lily Sugar'n Cream for this dishcloth. Bernat Handicrafter Cotton works well also.
  • Scissors
  • Yarn for weaving in ends

  1. Chain 32.

  2. Row 1: DC in 4th ch from hook. DC in each stitch to the last stitch. Ch 3. Turn.

  3. Row 2: DC in next stitch and all the way to the last stitch. Ch 3. Turn.

  4. Row 3: Skip first stitch and DC in next stitch. DC in stitch just skipped. This just made your first criss-cross. DC in last stitch. Ch 3. Turn. Should have a total of 14 “criss-crosses.”

  5. Row 4-5: DC in every stitch across. Ch 3. Turn.

  6. Repeat rows 3-5 until dishcloth is a square. Mine measured about 8 1/2”.

  7. Finish off and weave in ends.

  1. First decide how long you want your fringe to be. I used 4 fingers but you might want to use a piece of cardboard.

  2. Then you wrap your yarn around your fingers (or cardboard), and cut off on one side only. I wrapped 6 times giving me 6 strands of yarn.

  3. Fold group of 6 in half

  4. Using a chunky crochet hook, I used 8mm (you might need a bigger size) put your hook through a corner space and pull your loop of yarn through.

  5. Pull the ends through the loop.

  6. Tighten the knot by pushing it up.
