  • Vintage or newer buttons, buckles, and jewelry bits
  • E-6000 glue
  • Wire cutters
  • Pin backs, and/or pendant bails

  1. Select some large pieces for the bases.  These are usually coat buttons or large buckles.
  2. Start finding smaller pieces to layer on top of the bases.

  3. If you are using buttons with a shank, you will need to remove the shank with wire cutters so the button will lie flat when you glue it down.

  4. Once you have decided where you want your buttons arranged, you are ready to glue!
  5. There is actually a proper way to use E-6000 glue on smooth surfaces.  Put a dab on the button, then lay it on the other button or buckle.  Slide it into place.  The sliding is important, rather than just placing it down.  It creates a better bond.
  6. Affix a pinback to the finished pieces.  I added a silver bail to one piece so it can be strung on a cord as a pendant.  I have found the pinbacks at the craft stores, but not the pendant bails.  I order those from Etsy or eBay sellers.
  7. Some of the smaller pieces could be made into magnets for memo boards or the fridge.  You can buy packages of super strong magnets at the craft stores.
