Learn how to make the most beautiful notecards you've seen in your life. Insanely vibrant color and metallic joy decorate these butterfly notecards. If you've never worked with foils before, you're in for a treat. Effortlessly get the stunning metallic look you see here with foils. All you need is your laminator and the foiling tools from Therm O Web to put together this card. The metallic foils decorating the butterfly wings add another layer of radiance to the card. Use these for any occasion, and wow your friends when they learn you've made them yourself.

From Therm O Web: One of the quickest ways to create metallic foil effects is with Deco Foil Clear Designer Toner Sheets. Designs are pre-printed with toner ink onto special acetate sheets; when run through a hot laminator with a Deco Foil Transfer Sheet, the foil fuses to the ink, creating beautiful metallic designs that can be used as backgrounds and overlays.

Materials List

  • Deco Foil Clear Designer Toner Sheets, Groovy
  • Deco Foil Transfer Sheets, Gold Shattered Glass
  • iCraft Sticky Dot Mini Adhesive Runner
  • Foil Laminator
  • Gina K. Designs Stamp n Foil System (Butterfly Kisses): Clear Stamp Set, Foil-Mates Details Sheets, Craft Dies
  • Patterned paper
  • Scrap cardstock, ½ sheet
  • Coordinating ink pad
  • Tools: paper trimmer, bone folder, acrylic stamp block, manual die-cutting machine

Preheat laminator for 15-20 minutes following manufacturer’s directions.

  1. Cut Deco Foil Clear Designer Toner Sheet to 4″x8″. Wipe surface with soft, lint-free cloth and avoid touching printed areas.

  2. Cut a piece of Deco Foil Transfer Sheet slightly larger than clear piece. Place foil over toner sheet, color side up, and place on scrap cardstock inside a folded piece of parchment paper. Close parchment paper and insert into hot laminator, leading with creased edge. Peel away foil sheet to reveal metallic finish.

  3. Gently score toner sheet at 4”.

  4. To fold the clear toner piece, carefully cover it with Deco Foil Parchment Paper and run a bone folder across the scored area. This will prevent any scratches on the foiled clear toner piece.

  5. Cut 4”x8” piece from patterned paper; score and fold to create 4” square notecard.

  6. Use Sticky Dot Adhesive Runner to apply a line of adhesive across the top, folded edge of the notecard.

  7. Carefully slide clear toner sheet overlay over patterned notecard, aligning edges before pressing down over adhesive.

  8. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 on opposite side of notecard.

  9. Following package directions, ink butterfly stamp and stamp over corresponding wings image on Foil-Mates Detail Sheet. Let dry. Die cut butterfly and wipe with soft, lint-free cloth.

  10. Repeat Step 2 to foil butterfly wings with Gold Shattered Glass Deco Foil. Adhere butterfly to card overlay; embellish butterfly with gems or pearls, if desired.
