Can you do this rug in knitting

I need to know if this rug can be done in knitting

Can you do t his pattern buy knitting it.

Sorry this pattern makes no sense.....sounds like a double crochet that is decreasing stitch. Tried and normally have no problem following patterns, but this one cannot be correct.

This stitch is basically making half double crochets but instead of yarning over the first time you pick up a loop from the previous stitch you worked. Then you put your hook in the stitch you are working on and draw up another loop (so you have 3 on your hook) Then you YO and pull thru the 3 loops like you normally do to finish the stitch. I hope that helped. I've used this stitch method on some socks I made and it resulted in fewer holes in the fabric which is probably why it was used here.

Those who would prefer a printable pattern can find one here: http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/crochet-checkerboard-rug aubu1964: It could probably be done if you are an experienced knitter. You would just need to figure out when to change colors to get the checkerboard effect. As I recollect from seeing various finished projects, crochet stitches are bulkier, so a knit version probably would not hold up as well on the floor, but likely take less yarn.

I wish this pattern could be done in Knitted form too.
