How to Make a Pom Pom

DIY Pom Pom Instructions

  1. Determind the size of your pom pom and then buy/use the correct sized pom pom maker.

About Pom Pom Maker: They pull apart in two separate pieces, and they have a couple of hinges two on each side in two separate pieces.

  2. Open the hinges on one side of the pom pom maker, and keeping those two hinges together, wrap your yarn around the hinge until it is really densely covered.

Tip: The more yarn the better to get a thick lush pom pom. A good way to check is to try and close the hinges and it should be a little difficult to close.

  3. Repeat this on the other two hinges on the other side of the pom pom maker.

  4. Take some scissors, and cut along the ridge that is inbetween the two hinges.

  5. Cut one long scrap of yarn, and put that big scrap inbetween the ridge of the pom pom shape and pull it through in a horshoes shape until you feel a kind of snap. Then you tie a knot tightly, and make sure it is really secure.

  6. Pop the legs of the pom pom maker open and pull the pom pom maker apart. Trim your pom pom into more of a round shape instead of an oval shape, and cut out any outlining pieces.

If you want to give your crotchet project that extra kick then your probably thinking of pom poms. They have been on the rage since winter, especially the fuzzy ones and with this video you can make your own. It's pretty easy to do and you'll find that the multicoloured one is a great stashbuster!

This was very creative and a quick craft project that I would like to do. I'm planning on making character hats for my grandchildren and I was including pom poms on the top. This was my first time ever seeing an actual pom pom maker, I normally use a piece of cardboard but this would be much easier and quicker. It's a craft project I would do.
