Zippers aren't just for function anymore! Choose fashion over function and refashion a T-shirt with this tutorial. Make a zipper t-shirt simply by choosing where to place your zipper and sewing it on for a striking detail. Take an ordinary T-shirt from plain to fashionable with this video tutorial. It's amazing what you can do to make a shirt new and unique when you add your own embellishments! You can even add multiple zippers if you'd like, and sewing zippers is super easy to do.

Materials List

  • A T-shirt you want to redesign
  • Locking zippers
  • A sewing machine
  • Straight pins

Instructions

  1. First, play around with the placement of the zippers until you find a look you like. For this tutorial, we'll use just one zipper and add a lapel zipper.

  2. Pin it in place. In this example, pin just outside the collar and downward, towards the underarm.

  3. Using the zipper foot on your sewing machine, sew it in place.

  4. Cut the fabric underneath the zipper teeth.

  5. You're done! A great way to accessorize T-shirts by adding zippers to update your look.
