Materials List

  • Walnut Hollow wood slice ornament
  • Walnut Hollow Creative Burning Tool
  • Covered work space
  • Beacon Adhesive 527 - multi-use glue
  • Ribbon flowers or paper flowers
  • Pencil
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors

The Walnut Hollow wood slice ornament comes with a smooth surface, a pre-drilled hole, and a piece of jute twine that can be used as a hanger for the ornament.  A polka dot ribbon was used instead to give the unicorn an additional bit of whimsy.

When working with a wood burning tool take safety precautions and work in an open space.

The basic wood burning tool comes with 4 tips the flow point, cone point shading point and the universal point. There are many things you can create with the four basic tips. Once you decide you like the craft, you can invest in more tips and that's when the real fun begins.

  1. Remove the jute cording from the ornament.

  2. Place the flowers around the head of the unicorn but do not glue down.

  3. Draw the eyes and nostrils of the unicorn. Remove the flowers and set on the side.

  4. Use the wood burning tool with the flow tip to burn the design into the wood.

  5. Place the flowers back on the unicorn and adhere them down with glue.

  6. Cut a piece of ribbon or even several to make the ornament hanger. Tie the hanger through the pre-drilled hole.
