One of the best ways to celebrate your love for the Earth on Earth Day is by creating projects that are actually sustainable. This is why making market bags and tote bag projects are the ultimate DIY craft idea for this very special day. Consider creating the Earth Day Tie Dye Tote this April. This stunning and surprisingly simple tie dye design shows you how to design a tote with a tree applique or iron-on. Perfect for carting to the Farmer’s Market or the grocery store, this DIY tote bag will stay sturdy for years to come. Plus, you could easily tie dye plain and boring tote bags you have collecting dust around the house.

  4. Wearing gloves from dye box, fill dye bottles with water to line indicated, then replace cap and shake well until dye is thoroughly dissolved.

  5. Squeeze Brown dye along folds on bottom third of bag, carefully lifting folds to add dye to inner folds as needed. Repeat step with Turquoise on remainder of tote along folds.

  6. Let set 4 – 6 hours then wash in washer with small amount of laundry soap. Dry in dryer and iron smooth.

  7. Remove backing paper from Heart Tree Iron-On Transfer™ and position in place on bag as shown. Cover with pressing cloth then iron in place following package directions. Remover paper covering while still hot.

  8. Position Love Bird Iron-On Appliqué™ where desired, cover with pressing cloth and iron in place following package instructions, being careful not to add too much heat to section that covers Heart Tree transfer.

  9. Follow label instructions for care of the tote.
