  • 2 skeins Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo Yarn in Turqua (A)
  • 2 skeins Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo Yarn in Blacklight (B)
  • 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo Yarn in Black (C)
  • 6 mm (US J-10) crochet hook
  • Stitch markers
  • Yarn needle

Instructions:

Beginning Puff Stitch

  1. Ch 7, (yarn over, insert hook in 4th ch from hook, yarn over and pull up a loop) 3 times

  2. Yarn over, insert hook in next double crochet, yarn over and pull up loop

  3. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook

  4. Yarn over and pull through all 8 loops on hook, ch 3 to close puff st.

Puff Stitch

  1. (Yarn over, insert hook in space at closing of last puff st, yarn over and pull up a loop) 3 times

  2. Yarn over, insert hook in next double crochet, yarn over and pull up loop

  3. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook

  4. Yarn over and pull through all 8 loops on hook, ch 3

Complete Puff Stitch

  1. Repeat Step 1 of puff st

  2. Insert hook in 4th ch of beginning ch-7 and pull up loop

  3. Yarn over and pull through all 8 loops on hook

Throw

MOTIF (make 11)
With A, ch 4, slip st in first ch to form a ring

  1. Round 1 (Right Side): Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), 15 dc in ring, slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 16 dc.

  2. Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, ch 1, skip next st, *3 dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st; repeat from * around, slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 24 dc and 8 ch-1 spaces. Fasten off.

  3. Round 3: With right side facing, join B with slip st in any st, beg puff st in first 2 sts, puff st in each dc around to last st, skipping all ch-1 spaces, end puff st in last st, slip st in ch-3 space at top of beg puff st – 24 puff sts. Fasten off.

  4. Round 4: With right side facing, join C with sc in ch-3 space at top of any puff st, sc in same space, ch 1, *2 sc in next ch-3 space, ch 1; repeat from * around, slip st in first sc – 48 sc and 24 ch-1 spaces. Fasten off.

  5. Round 5: With right side facing, join A with slip st in any st, ch 3, dc in next st, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, *dc in next 2 sts, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space; repeat from * around, slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 48 dc and 24 ch-1 spaces. Fasten off.

  6. Round 6: Repeat Round 3, skipping all ch-1 spaces – 48 puff sts.

  7. Round 7: With right side facing, join C with sc in ch-3 space at top of any puff st, sc in same space, 2 sc in each ch-3 space around, slip st in first sc – 96 sc. Fasten off

  8. Round 8: With right side facing, join A with slip st in any st, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same st, skip next st, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, skip next st, *(3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next st, skip next st, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, skip next st; repeat from * around, slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 36 dc, 48 hdc, 30 sc and 6 ch-1 spaces.

  9. Round 9: Ch 3, dc in each st to next ch-1 space, *(dc, ch 3, dc) in next ch-1 space, dc in each st to next ch-1 space; repeat from * around, slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 126 dc. Fasten off.

Top and Bottom Half Motif

(make 2)
With A, ch 4, slip st in first ch to form a ring

  1. Row 1 (Right Side): Ch 3, 10 dc in ring, turn – 11 dc

  2. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in each st to end – 12 dc. Fasten off.

  3. Row 3: With right side facing, join B with slip st in first st, beg puff st in first 2 sts, puff st in each st to end – 13 puffs. Fasten off.

  4. Row 4: With right side facing, join C with sc in ch-3 space at top of first puff st, sc in same space, *ch 1, 2 sc in next ch-3 space; repeat from * to end – 24 sc and 11 ch-1 spaces. Fasten off.

  5. Row 5: With right side facing, join A with slip st in first st, ch 3, dc in next st, *ch 1, dc in next 2 sts; repeat from * to end – 24 dc and 11 ch-1 spaces. Fasten off.

  6. Row 6: Repeat Row 3, skipping all ch-1 spaces – 23 puff sts. Fasten off.

  7. Row 7: With right side facing, join C with sc in ch-3 space at top of first puff st, 2 sc in same space, 3 sc in next ch-3 space, 2 sc in next 20 ch-3 spaces, 3 sc in last ch-3 space – 49 sc. Fasten off.

  8. Row 8: With right side facing, join A with slip st in first st, (ch 3, 2 dc) in same st, *skip next st, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, skip next st, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next st; repeat from * 3 times, turn – 18 dc, 24 hdc, and 15 sc.

  9. Row 9: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, *dc in each st to next ch-1 space, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next ch-1 space; repeat from * twice, dc in each st to last st, 3 dc in last st – 65 dc. Fasten off.

Side Filler Motif

(make 6)

  1. Row 1 (Right Side): With A, ch 4, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, turn – 4 dc.

  2. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in first st, 3 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st – 10 dc. Fasten off.

  3. Row 3: With right side facing, join B with slip st in first st, beg puff st in first 2 sts, puff st in each st to end – 9 puff sts. Fasten off.

  4. Row 4: With right side facing, join C with sc in ch-3 space at top of first puff, sc in same space, 3 sc in next 7 ch-3 spaces, 2 sc in last ch-3 space – 25 sc. Fasten off.

  5. Row 5: With right side facing, join A with slip st in first st, ch 3, dc in each st to end – 25 dc. Fasten off.

  6. Row 6: Repeat Row 3.

  7. Row 7: With right side facing, join C with sc in ch-3 space at top of first puff st, sc in same space, 2 sc in each ch-3 space to end – 49 sc. Fasten off.

Assembly

  1. Arrange four Motifs in a row with sts along opposite sides aligned. Working through back loops only, whipstitch Motifs together. Repeat to make a second row of four Motifs. Repeat to make a center row of three Motifs. Sew Top and Bottom Half Motifs to corresponding edges of center row. Fit and sew edges of rows together with center row in the middle and remaining rows fitted along opposite long edges. Sew Side Filler Motifs in spaces along opposite long edges of rows.
