Autumn Recipe Box

This fall craft project from Beacon Adhesives shows you how to decoupage a wooden box to make this cute Autumn recipe box with an apple design.

Autumn Recipe Box

Materials:

  • Recipe box, new or old, 4 1⁄2” X 6 1⁄2 or size of choice
  • Apple decorative paper
  • Red dotted paper
  • Tissue paper
  • Zip dry paper glue
  • Liquid laminate
  • Red and ochre acrylic paints
  • Paper cutter or scissors
  • Ruler
  • 1⁄2” craft brush
  • Gesso or other white paint

Instructions:

  1. Paint box with gesso and let dry.

  2. Tear tissue into smaller pieces. Coat outside of box with LIQUID LAMINATE, working in small areas. Place tissue on wet LIQUID LAMINATE and apply a top coat of LIQUID LAMINATE over tissue. Continue until entire box is covered with tissue and LAMINATE.

  3. Paint lid ochre and bottom red. After paint dries, add another coat of LIQUID LAMINATE as a protective coating.

  4. Cut a 3 ½” X 6” piece of dotted paper and glue to center of lid with PAPER-TAC. Prepare an additional 3” wide piece of this paper to fit around box and glue in place.

  5. Glue a 2 ½” X 5” piece of apple paper over the top of the dotted paper on lid. Repeat on the sides using a 2” wide strip. Let completely dry.
